phosphor
A downloadable sprite set
As your eyes become used to the dark, you see what looks like a tunnel ahead, dimly lit by some kind of phosphorescent material on its walls. The tunnel walls are smooth, as if they were shaped by running water
-The Cave of Time, Edward Packard
phosphor (title may change) is a 16 x 16 fantasy tileset.
the constraints are strict 16 x 16 with three colors per tile, including a shared black. they are designed to be manually or programmatically color swapped. most sprites are somewhat smaller so as to afford one another (and walls) some breathing room.
pardon my dust- i am endeavoring to get v. 0.8 up the night before 7drl 2024! i will be working on this throughout the event, so if you would like any items, characters, scenery, etc., please feel free to reach out! twitter is probably likeliest to reach my ears while i am working on my own entry.
this initial version has quite a few humanoid character types, a decent initial offering of nonhumanoid creatures, walls, scenery, and items suitable for traditional roguelikes. there is very little animation at present but there will be more. i will likely do breadth first and try to get decent coverage of desired sprites, then fill in with idle animations, some multifunction effect animations, etc.
the example screenshots show the different wall sets, characters, items, and scenery with demo palettes. these are all designed to show off your palettes, especially palette swaps at runtime, eg assigning random palettes per generated level. i hope folks have fun coming up with their own colors!
the wall system was chosen to be elegant and aesthetically satisfying without being hard to set up. the walls are full tile, zero overdraw, for readability and ease of use. with this approach, you get some pleasant mixed perspective depth without needing to set up depth sorting or layers. wall tiles are in sets of two base tiles, with an optional shadow tile.
for a simple two tile autotile, the rule is:
if there is empty space below us use wall else use flat
that's it! otherwise it's a 1:1 substitution for your ascii.
note: i am disabling donations on this until it is a little more complete, at which point it will be pay what you want.

Animations would complete this set! I know that is not the rogue way, but I like physics and then a static frame looks weird.
Whoever makes a roguelike dungeon crawler using this tileset , plz reply , i'd love to play )
I like your note about how to setup wall, even if it's simple, it's a great practice to have this.
Have an emoji of a hearth <3
